Malan, who smashed 78 from 44 balls on debut against South Africa in Cardiff in June, top scored with 50 from 36 deliveries as the tourists slumped from 94-2 towards halfway to post 155-9 from their 20 overs.
David Willey, who biffed five sixes and a four in one Nathan Lyon over in England's warm-up against a Prime Minister's XI, was stumped on the slog for three off Maxwell (3-10), a ball after Malan had been caught in the deep, as England lost 7-43 once Eoin Morgan (22) became Maxwell's first victim.
Maxwell (103no off 58) then completed his second T20I century and Australia's victory by walloping Mark Wood for six in the penultimate over, having earned a reprieve on 59 when the third umpire adjudged Jason Roy had failed to take a catch cleanly at long-off and overruled the soft signal of out.
Maxwell saw Australia to their target with nine balls remaining and to two wins from two in the tournament following their rain-affected, seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in Sydney on Saturday.
Beanpole seamer Billy Stanlake claimed 3-15 against the Black Caps - but was punished by England early on in Hobart after the tourists were inserted, with his first three overs taken for 35 runs.
Malan smashed the second, fourth and fifth balls he faced for boundaries en route to a 34-ball fifty, which included five fours and two sixes, before he perished on the slog sweep amid the collapse.
Chris Jordan (16no off 11) smashed the final delivery of the innings for six and Willey (3-28) then snared two wickets in the first over of Australia's reply - David Warner (4) and Chris Lynn (0) the men to fall.
